Since 1914 the founder of F.A. Gluck (Clockmakers) Ltd., Felix Albert Gluck(1896 – 1993), and his wife Marie-Therese, have been associated with the Swiss Horological industry. When working at the Fleurier watch company Marie-Therese’s father, Ernest Sollberg, was approached by the Tavannes Watch Company because of his excellent skills in horology. Herman Gluck, Felix’s father, was a highly skilled watch finisher who worked for many leading watch factories in Switzerland. Both Felix and Marie-Therese followed in their fathers footsteps and became skilled watch and clock makers in their own right.

Marie-Therese became a highly skilled jewel setter at the Fleurier watch company, and Felix an escapement maker at Jaeger-le-Coultre. Felix and Marie-Therese now married for seven years, had the opportunity to emigrate to England after Felix had been approached by S. Smith & Son if London. In 1930 the Gluck family started a new life in North London, England, with Felix working as a manager at S. Smith & Son running the “Fabrication D’Assortisement”. After the war Felix’s son Gilbert started his apprenticeship at Smiths, once completed both Felix and Gilbert had the burning ambition to start their own company. At the age of 60 Felix and his son Gilbert did just that, 1954 saw the beginning of Gluck Engineering Company Limited, manufacturers of precision components, allied to the instrument trade. Such was their success the trade saw the complete manufacture of Industrial Clocks made entirely at Gluck Engineering. Within ten years the company had grown tenfold and had moved to South London.

In 1976 saw the production of 8 day carriage clock movements which were sold into the British clock trade. In 1983 the founder’s grandson Roger Gluck , now managing director, joined the company after completing his apprenticeship in both Switzerland and America, Applying his knowledge of complex machine tools and computer aided manufacture, the company was soon way ahead of its competitors. The demand for Gluck’s products was so high that F.A. Gluck (clockmakers) was formed so that the complete manufacture of French reproduction carriage clocks could be started. To date the company’s success has been recognised by the Queens Award for export and a worldwide interest in the company’s capabilities. F.A. Gluck (Clockmakers) has a reputation for quality and being a totally self sufficient organisation, which uses only the highest quality materials and employs and extremely skilled and competent workforce who have been associated with the horological trade for many years.
